This is the cathedral of La
Sagrada Familia (The Sacred Family), designed by Spanish
architect Antonio Gaudi. We all agreed that this church
belongs to the "drippy sandcastle" mold, not to
be confused with the "bad acid trip" style of
architecture. |
The top of the eight finished towers carries the first letter of the name of one of the apostles and the words Hosana and Excelsis spiraling down the sides. Among other things, on the facade of the church there are 310 combinations of 4 numbers that add up to 33, the age of Christ at death; and references to modern morality, such as the Devil handing a bomb to a terrorist and waving a purse at a prostitute. But does it have a parish hall? |

The interior of the church,
which is the Big Dig of Barcelona. Work started in 1883,
but it won't be finished for another 40 or 50 years.
Where's LC and the piledriving team when you need them? |
Ruis i Taulet's Monument a Colom (a.k.a. Christopher Columbus). Historians agree that Columbus was actually from Italy, not Spain, and geographers agree that this statue is pointing to Libya, not the Americas. Another job for Conrad and the boys... |

The Fontes Luminoses, which
with the multicolored mist and the Fantasia music was the
closest thing to Epcot Center that I've seen here. Sorry,
Nate Dogg. No sign of the stir-fry noodles. |
I walked by this dog outside our hostel on Las Ramblas, came back three hours later, and it was still sitting in that same exact position wearing the ridiculous glasses. I thought it was especially impressive considering I practically had to put our dog in a Full Nelson and drag him to his room every night last summer. |

think Congo sucked! |
Meadows, Jamie and Jen in front of a tiger shark at the Barcelona Aquarium. Yes, the zoo and the aquarium in a three-day span. I'm 20. I swear. |

| And while designing this apartment building early in the 1900s, Gaudi shifted his attention to mushrooms... | By far the dumbest picture I took, but the only one with me in it, proving I spent the 429 Euro actually going to Barcelona. Love you, Mom! |
